BIOCOMPLEX MICROBIAL CULTURE MEDIA

Biocomplex, a proprietary extract of Ascophyllum nodosum marine algae, is a natural bio-activator. Ascophyllum nodosum, one of the most nutritious vegetables on the planet, is described as a ‘super food’. In anaerobic digestion it acts as a bio-stimulant performing several critical biological functions:

  • Biological ion exchange, provided by the polyuronic acid content in the Biocomplex, promotes the conversion of ammonia to ammonium while reducing the formation of hydrogen sulphide. Both ammonia and hydrogen sulphate are inhibitors of microbial health and proliferation.
  • Odour reduction as ammonia, hydrogen sulphate and methyl-mercaptans, the odour-causing compounds, are not produced.
  • Promotes the conversion of long-chain-fatty-acids (LCFA’s) into simple organic acids thereby increasing the “food” for the methane-forming microbes which can only digest simple organic acids.
  • Chelation of important nutrients required by microbial populations thereby increasing bioavailability of the nutrients

Biocomplex feeds and protects microbial populations as it contains a full range of essential nutrients to stimulate bacteria and hence promote metabolic transformation. Ascophyllum nodosum, the essential ingredient of Biocomplex, has over 12 vitamins, 60 trace elements and micro-nutrients and 21 key amino acids. It is also a rich source of oligosaccharides which uniquely feed and protect microbes.
